Childersburg Middle School

Summary:

Childersburg Middle School is a public middle school serving grades 6-8 in Childersburg, Alabama, with a student population of 363 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school is part of the Talladega County school district, which is ranked 76 out of 137 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Compared to nearby middle schools, Childersburg Middle School has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of African American students (around 51-53%) and a lower percentage of white students (around 41-42%). However, the school's test scores are generally lower than the state and county averages across various subjects and grade levels, particularly in Math, where proficiency rates range from 18.68% to 22.89%, compared to the state averages of 31.56% to 23.6%. The school performs better in English, with proficiency rates ranging from 43.96% to 62.5%, which are closer to the state averages. Additionally, Childersburg Middle School has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 78.09% to 86.78%, significantly higher than the nearby schools, which have rates ranging from 27.97% to 91.5%.

Despite these challenges, Childersburg Middle School's diverse student population and relatively strong performance for its African American students suggest potential areas of focus for improvement and growth. However, the school's declining statewide ranking, from a high of 81 out of 432 Alabama middle schools in 2016-2017 to a ranking of 182 out of 442 in the most recent 2023-2024 school year, indicates that the school's performance may be declining relative to other middle schools in the state. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students at Childersburg Middle School may also suggest a need for greater funding and resources to support its student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The assistant principal militarizes the students & spends his days sitting in classes not allowing teachers to take charge on their own. While taking so much energy to police the halls, he is either ignoring everything going on under his nose or is too fucking ignorant to realize it.
For him to put forth so much energy in policing the school , you’d think he would care more about how students are treating one another than being the first to pass out one way tickets (which is a rather useless punishment) to OSCAR. Maybe try praising the kids on even simple good behaviors instead of automatically setting them up to to fail. Kids will be what you make them out to be, man. Figured you knew this with all this training.
You have kids getting slapped but “not really if you didn’t see it.” You’ve got kids being bullied but “not really if you saw them talking weeks before.”
I don’t know if you need to be replaced or if you need a lesson taught to you by a dominatrix. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
