Summary:

Harvest School is an elementary school located in Harvest, Alabama, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 734. The school is part of the Madison County School District, which is ranked 32 out of 137 districts in Alabama and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Harvest School has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of African American (44.55%) and Hispanic (10.49%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by the Summative Assessment, is generally lower than the Madison County and Alabama state averages across various grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the percentage of 3rd-grade students proficient or better in Mathematics was 35.96% at Harvest School, compared to 52.15% in Madison County and 42.16% statewide. Additionally, Harvest School has a higher percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 53.68% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year.

Despite these challenges, Harvest School's performance varies across different student subgroups, with African American and Hispanic students generally performing better than their White and low socioeconomic status peers within the school. When compared to nearby schools in the Madison County and Limestone County districts, Harvest School generally underperforms academically, particularly in mathematics and science. However, the school's performance in English/Language Arts is more competitive, suggesting potential strengths in this area. By addressing the identified areas of concern, such as the achievement gaps and socioeconomic factors, Harvest School can work towards regaining its higher ranking and star rating and providing a high-quality education for all its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The staff at Harvest Elementary are wonderful. The principal is always ready to hear your concerns and she addresses them on the spot. The school is very parent friendly and always has some sort of family activity going on. We have been very pleased with our experience with HES. My daughter is testing way above grade level due in part to the wonderful teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
