Redoubt Elementary

Summary:

Redoubt Elementary is a public elementary school located in Soldotna, Alaska, serving grades PK-6 with a student population of 366. The school is part of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, which is ranked 10th out of 24 districts in Alaska and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Redoubt Elementary consistently performs above the state and district averages in science proficiency, but its performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics is more mixed, with proficiency rates slightly above the state average but below the district average. The school's performance for female students and white students is generally lower than the state and district averages, while its performance for multi-racial students and low socioeconomic status students is relatively stronger. Redoubt Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to some of the nearby schools, including Nikiski North Star Elementary, Tustumena Elementary, and Sterling Elementary.

Redoubt Elementary's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the past several years, from a high of 34th out of 218 Alaska elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 97th out of 173 in 2023-2024. This decline in performance is reflected in the school's drop from a 4-star to a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, Redoubt Elementary outperforms some of the other nearby schools, such as Mt. View Elementary, in both academic proficiency and statewide rankings. The school's relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds may contribute to its lower academic performance, as research has shown a strong correlation between poverty and educational outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Don't enroll your children in this school if you can. There are few good teachers within this school. They mainly hire their friends and do very little to help solve any issues that you might have with a teacher because they are all friends with one another. You're better off homeschooling your kid rather than enrolling them in this school. When someone was calling in threats to the schools within this area, this school did not even contact parents to let them know until a day or so after we had heard it in the news. There is so much lack of communication it's ridiculous. Most of the people who work here are just working to collect a pay check and could care less about anyone else but themselves. They don't care about the students are very rude. Do your children a favor and don't enroll them in this school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
