G W Edgerton Elementary

Summary:

G W Edgerton Elementary is a public elementary school in Puyallup, Washington, serving 758 students in grades PK-6 and part of the Puyallup School District.

G W Edgerton Elementary consistently outperforms the Puyallup School District and Washington state averages in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math proficiency, with 51.66% of students proficient or better in ELA and 48.58% in Math, compared to 54.82% and 43.33% for the district, respectively. The school also performs well in Science, with 50.5% of students proficient or better. However, the school faces challenges in supporting its special education and low socioeconomic status student subgroups, which perform lower than the overall student population. Nearby schools like Frank Brouillet Elementary and Ridgecrest Elementary have shown stronger academic performance in certain grade levels and subject areas.

G W Edgerton Elementary has seen a significant increase in per-student spending, from $8,414 in 2019-2020 to $16,687 in 2021-2022, and a decrease in student-teacher ratio from 15.2 in 2020-2021 to 17.3 in 2022-2023. However, the school's overall performance has been somewhat inconsistent, with its statewide ranking fluctuating from a high of 262 out of 1,130 Washington elementary schools in 2018-2019 to a low of 569 out of 1,053 in 2015-2016. This suggests that continued investment in resources and targeted interventions may be necessary to help the school maintain and improve its academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Am giving edgerton elementary a one star based on the poor interest of their students well being. For three times that I have had a complain from my son reported to the principal including a bus safety issue, The principal has not listened to my concern. It's only her way and nobody else's way including her yelling to me over the phone on my last conversation she yelled this words Making an excuse for a grown up who threatened to harm my child- " people flip out and say stuff to other people that they don't mean to do" like intent to abuse my child. Oh well my opinion is when they threaten a child they cause emotional instability to him and also " people flip out say things and do them, like hitting or causing harm to a person. You got to be kidding

Open Quote My children attended Edgerton for three years. I am now homeschooling my youngest. I came to the decision to homeschool based on all the difficulties my son and I were experiencing at Edgerton. I and my son were both bullied at Edgerton on more than one occasion. And I wasn't the only one either. I know enough to understand that bullying will never stop between children until the parents themselves stop bullying each other. Administration at Edgerton does not stand behind students who need it. Instead they marginalize victims and reward the culprits by ignoring everything they do. They ignore the bullying because they don't want a black mark on their school, and because the parents of these bullies happen to be so-n-so, they donate more than you do, they are friends with each other, or they are part of the Edgerton PTA Royalty BOD. You need to understand that the Edgerton PTA is housed in the school and they do have control of the school and administration. There is a large group of parents and teachers at this school that hide behind the shield of the PTA as if they are doing good works. But they are nothing more than a bunch of bullies to the other parents and other teachers. They act so entitled and elitist. Everything is about money and status with them and who you know. The PTA drama mamas are always loitering right inside the school building and seem to live at the school, they stand around gossiping and conniving. They push their kids to be mean and bully also. I don't think there is a genuine good person at Edgerton for I have not seen one. They all have their own agendas, including the teachers, and none of it included education as their priority. Not one person has ever stood up for someone who needed it at Edgerton. Just look at the test scores and how they continue to drop. I will say that I still get upset every time I think of how we were treated and I know it happened to me and not to you but that shouldn't matter. I could go on and on with the details and specifics of how I and my son were treated and about the poor treatment of students and parents I witnessed but I don't have enough time or room here and now. Good luck if you and your children are going to attend Edgerton. And if you are one of the parents I've talked about in this review then, 'Shame on you, shame on all of you!'. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
