Odyssey Elementary

Summary:

Odyssey Elementary is a public elementary school in Everett, Washington, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Mukilteo School District. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup that has shifted in recent years.

Odyssey Elementary faces significant academic challenges, with consistently lower proficiency rates in SBAC/English Language Arts and SBAC/Math compared to the district and state averages across all grade levels. The school's performance is particularly concerning for specific student subgroups, such as African American, Hispanic, and Special Education students, who consistently rank in the bottom 20-30% of their respective statewide subgroups. Odyssey Elementary's statewide ranking has fluctuated but has generally been in the bottom half of Washington elementary schools, with a 1- or 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Interestingly, Odyssey Elementary's academic performance is significantly lower than that of nearby schools within the Mukilteo School District, such as Endeavour Elementary and Serene Lake Elementary, which consistently rank in the top half of Washington elementary schools and have higher proficiency rates. Despite Odyssey Elementary's relatively low student-teacher ratio and spending per student, these factors do not appear to be significant contributors to its academic challenges, suggesting that the school may need to implement targeted interventions and strategies to address the unique needs of its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I agree with the other parent. One star is way too much to rate them because they are terrible. Staff are completely incompetent. Lots of violence and discrimination. I've seen a teacher yelling at a student and belittling them publicly. Close Quote

Open Quote I attended this school from 1st grade to 4th grade. After looking back on this school after almost 10 years I loved it so much. Mr. Oxner and Ms. Peterson were the best elementary school teachers I have ever had and the school made me feel really special. As a 4th grader I wanted a flag to represent our school, I drew a picture and gave it to the Ms. Boze, the principal. She got a flag made and today it is still next to the staircase as soon as you enter the main entrance. The school is majority low-income, but not a day did I feel like I was in a school that was poor or low funded. Of course other school may have better opportunities, clubs, activities, but Odyssey Elementary was still the only elementary school I had the best memories at (I went to 3 different elementary schools). About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
