Arcola Elementary

Summary:

Arcola Elementary is a public elementary school located in Aldie, Virginia, serving around 810 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Loudoun County Public Schools district, which is ranked 24th out of 130 school districts in Virginia and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Arcola Elementary stands out for its unique racial diversity, with a significant Asian student population (around 42%) and relatively low percentages of Hispanic and African American students (around 7-10% each). The school generally performs well on state assessments, with higher percentages of students proficient or better in Mathematics, Science, and English Reading compared to state averages. However, its performance is mixed when compared to nearby high-performing schools like Goshen Post Elementary, Madison's Trust Elementary, and Legacy Elementary, which often outperform Arcola in certain subject areas.

Arcola Elementary has maintained a strong performance on state assessments over the past several years, consistently ranking in the top half of Virginia elementary schools and earning 4-star ratings from SchoolDigger. However, the school faces potential equity concerns, as its performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Asian and multi-racial students performing particularly well, but White and low-socioeconomic status students struggling more. The school and district may need to address these disparities to ensure all students are reaching their full potential.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I've had 2 kids at Arcola. Every year our teachers have been excellent. My kids have learned a lot, and have been taught in very creative and interactive ways. The music teacher goes above and beyond her job performing extra tasks such as chorus, recorder groups, performances, etc. Adminstration is very welcoming, and the teachers are all enthusiastic and seem happy with their job. So glad my children can go to this school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
