King George High

Summary:

King George High is a public high school in King George, Virginia, serving 1,489 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Stafford County Public Schools district, which is ranked 69 out of 130 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

King George High has a higher percentage of White students (61.38%) compared to nearby schools, but this percentage has been decreasing over the years. The school consistently performs better than the state average in several SOL assessments, particularly in Algebra II, English Reading, and Writing. However, there are significant performance gaps between different student subgroups, with African American, multi-racial, low socioeconomic status, and disabled students performing lower than their peers. The school's overall statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 127 out of 326 Virginia high schools in 2017-2018 to 209 out of 329 in 2023-2024.

When compared to nearby high schools, such as Colonial Forge High and Brooke Point High, King George High generally performs better in academic assessments, but lags behind in overall statewide rankings and performance for certain subgroups. The school's funding, which has remained relatively consistent at around $7,585 to $8,072 per student, may be a factor in its academic performance, especially when compared to higher-spending districts like Fredericksburg City Public Schools, which spent $10,034 per student in 2020-2021.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Simply terrible. The salaries in this county are very low, so the saying "You get what you pay for" applies here.

The county employs way too many out-of-touch administrators who have one thing in common: An extremely poor work ethic.

The school board is out of touch with reality.

And discrimination is alive and well here. Black lives do matter... somewhere else. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
