Cedar Lee Middle

Summary:

Cedar Lee Middle is a public middle school located in Bealeton, Virginia, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 610 students. The school is part of the Fauquier County Public Schools district, which is ranked 58 out of 130 school districts in Virginia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cedar Lee Middle has a more diverse student population compared to the nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (32.46%) and African American (10.66%) students. However, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Virginia middle schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past few years, lower than the nearby schools like Auburn Middle and W.C. Taylor Middle. Cedar Lee Middle's student performance on SOL (Standards of Learning) tests is generally lower than the Fauquier County Public Schools district and the state of Virginia averages, particularly in Mathematics and English Reading.

The higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Cedar Lee Middle (51.31% in 2022-2023) suggests that the school serves a more economically disadvantaged population, which may contribute to the lower academic performance. While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 11.4 in 2022-2023, this has not yet translated into improved academic outcomes, indicating that other factors, such as curriculum, teaching practices, or school resources, may need to be addressed to help Cedar Lee Middle improve its performance and better serve its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Our son will not spend his 8th grade year here. The bullying is out of control. Some, not all of the teachers push their personal views in class. I am not the only parent who has made complaints. I am one of many parents who are either homeschooling, online schooling, or moving children to private schools because of the things going on here. This school also has a problem, hiring teachers who have questionable actions towards minors. Yes, you read that correctly. Our other child is at Mary Walter and she will never step foot in Cedar Lee middle. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
