Open Quote After enrolling our children we quickly discovered that the schools cleanliness underscored the institutions intolerance and aversion for childhood. We received two art projects in the span of one and a half years! Based on the schools marketing materials, we assumed that the children would be involved in the garden but that was just PR. The curriculum outdated at best. Your child will only learn to memorize hundreds of sight words- not how to decode. Average homework in first grade takes around 30 minutes and its entirely monotonous. “The, is the so-called "10-minute rule" -- 10 minutes per grade level per night. That translates into 10 minutes of homework in the first grade, 20 minutes in the second grade, all the way up to 120 minutes for senior year of high school. The NEA and the National PTA do not endorse homework for kindergarten.” CNN The data is our there- yet SMCS looks away.
About 6 +/- of the student body is seemingly wealthy. Priority is given to those families. When our younger son was physically assaulted on the playground, his teacher told me not to worry because the other child is from “a nice family.” This is the type of culture that cultivates harassment and bullying. Although I can’t confirm racial bias, the schools 1 African American population can only make me wonder.
Emily Post would be disgusted to see how teacher Birthdays, Teacher Appreciation, Christmas, Last Day of school are being honored at St. Martha. Typically what happens, is the room mother sends out a sign up list for gifts. If there are eighteen students in the class, there will be 18 items on the gift list-J.Crew gift cards, Capital Grill, color specified clothing, jewelry etc.. My family and I love to treat our children’s teacher to a special gift on certain occasions, but typically the less you ask, the more you receive. My husband and I made a donation to our children’s classrooms of $80.00 at the start of the school year. We were told by the chairperson that it wasn’t enough to participate in the Adopt A Class event and asked if we would like our checks returned. After I explained that we just wanted to contribute, I was told that our names would not be on the plaque. Name acknowledgement was never the goal on our end. The Chairperson then explained that the minimum donation was $250.00 and that the people able to make that donation amount were angered when lesser donors were included. This is a Catholic school? About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
