Brook Avenue Elementary

Summary:

Brook Avenue Elementary is a public charter elementary school in Waco, Texas, serving 369 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Waco Independent School District, which is ranked 901 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite relatively high per-student spending and a low student-teacher ratio, Brook Avenue Elementary consistently underperforms compared to other schools in the Waco ISD and the state of Texas. The school has ranked in the bottom 5% of Texas elementary schools for the past 10 years and maintains a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Proficiency rates on the STAAR tests are significantly lower at Brook Avenue Elementary, often less than half the district and state averages. The school's performance is particularly low for its African American and Hispanic student populations, ranking in the bottom 10-15% of Texas elementary schools for these subgroups.

Nearby Hillcrest PDS Magnet, Crestview Elementary, and Bell's Hill Elementary generally outperform Brook Avenue Elementary on academic measures, with higher proficiency rates on STAAR tests and higher statewide rankings. The data suggests that Brook Avenue Elementary faces significant challenges in providing a high-quality education to its students, and the school's leadership and the Waco ISD will need to develop a comprehensive plan to improve student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I went to a grandparent lunch, which is all week, with my granddaughter that is in kindergarten and it was great. The kids love this kind of love from the grandparents when they get to eat with their grandparents at school. I also noticed that there are pictures of the kids in school and telling what they are learning in school and then the day is a motion pic to watch on the computer. This is great to have parents and everyone to look at on the computer. The school is Robinson Elem. I think that the schools should look at this and maybe get some ideas. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
