Hillcrest Pds Magnet

Summary:

Hillcrest Pds Magnet is a public elementary school in Waco, Texas that serves grades PK-5 and has a diverse student population. This high-performing school consistently outperforms the Waco Independent School District (ISD) and the state of Texas in academic assessments, particularly in reading.

Hillcrest Pds Magnet's academic performance is impressive, with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students scoring significantly higher than their peers in the Waco ISD and Texas on the STAAR tests. The school's White students rank in the top 5% of Texas elementary schools in reading and math, while its African American and Hispanic students also perform better than their counterparts at the district and state levels. Hillcrest Pds Magnet maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio and spends more per student than many nearby schools, which may contribute to its strong academic outcomes.

Compared to other elementary schools in the area, such as Brook Avenue Elementary, Provident Heights Elementary, and Harmony Science Academy (Waco), Hillcrest Pds Magnet stands out for its consistent academic performance and its ability to support the success of its diverse student population. While the school has room for improvement in certain areas, such as the performance of its English Language Learner and Special Education students, its overall track record of excellence makes it a standout option for families in the Waco area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Hillcrest PDS is an amazing school! The teachers are caring and knowledgeable. The principal, Ms. Randazzo is a great administrator who really listens to teachers, staff, parents and the kids. There's no better place in the Waco area. Nothing in Hewitt, Woodway, Robinson, or any other area school is even close to what Hillcrest offers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
