Drs Reed - Mock Elementary

Summary:

Drs Reed - Mock Elementary is a public elementary school in San Juan, Texas, serving 536 students in grades PK-5. The school's student population is predominantly Hispanic, with 99.07% of students identifying as such in the 2022-2023 school year.

Drs Reed - Mock Elementary faces significant challenges in serving its economically disadvantaged student population, with 91.09% to 93.28% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch over the past three school years. However, the school is doing a relatively good job of supporting its Hispanic and English Learner students, ranking in the top 30% and top 43% of Texas elementary schools, respectively. Conversely, the school's performance for special education students has declined, ranking in the bottom 11% in 2021-2022, indicating a need for improvement in this area.

Drs Reed - Mock Elementary's academic performance has been inconsistent, with significant year-over-year fluctuations in STAAR assessment proficiency rates, particularly in reading and math. The school generally performs below the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District and Texas state averages, suggesting a need to focus on improving core academic instruction. Additionally, the school's proximity to other high-needs schools in the area, such as Vida N Clover Elementary and Sgt Leonel Trevino Elementary, indicates the broader community faces significant socioeconomic challenges that may impact student learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is a dual-language school. Kids who's first-language is Spanish learn English. Kids who's first-language is English, learn Spanish. The principal, Mr. Montelongo is wonderful as are the teachers and support staff. I feel fortunate to have my kids at this school as not only do they excel in school, but also get the benefits of dual language and many extra-curricular activities. Any problems we have ever had are addressed immediately and teachers have always worked closely with us to ensure our children get the attention they need to be successful. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
