Park Crest Middle

Summary:

Park Crest Middle is a public middle school in Pflugerville, Texas, serving 766 students in grades 6-8 and part of the Pflugerville Independent School District. The school has a diverse student population with higher percentages of African American and Hispanic students compared to surrounding schools, and it generally outperforms the district and state averages on STAAR assessments, particularly in 6th grade reading and math.

Park Crest Middle's special education and gifted and talented students perform well, ranking in the top 25% and top 50% of Texas middle schools, respectively, for these subgroups. However, the school's overall statewide ranking has declined in recent years, from 447 out of 2,080 Texas middle schools in 2017-2018 to 983 out of 2,330 in 2022-2023. This may be related to the school's relatively high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with 48.43% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. When compared to other middle schools in the Pflugerville ISD, Park Crest Middle generally outperforms Westview Middle and Pflugerville Middle, but lags behind the higher-performing Bohls Middle and Kelly Lane Middle.

Despite the school's declining statewide ranking, Park Crest Middle has maintained a very low dropout rate of 0.0% in recent years, which is a positive indicator of student engagement and success. The school's diverse student population, strong academic performance, and commitment to supporting all learners make it an interesting option for families in the Pflugerville area, though parents may want to consider the school's socioeconomic challenges and compare it to other high-performing middle schools in the Pflugerville ISD.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Park Crest teachers are great! The kids that want to succeed have plenty of opportunities to excel here. We have 2 currently attending. Our kids usually have 1.5-2 hours each of homework nightly (in their opinions, far too much). Overall, they're doing well, learning a lot and each have a great group of school friends. As parents, we are happy. For those interested, there are lots of clubs and sports. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
