Greenbriar Elementary

Summary:

Greenbriar Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 426 students in grades PK-5. The school has a predominantly Hispanic student population (81.92%) and a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students (90.14%), which is reflected in its consistently low academic performance compared to the state and district averages.

Greenbriar Elementary consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools, with significantly below-average scores on the STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests across all grade levels and subject areas. The school's performance is particularly low in STAAR Science, with only 7.35% of 5th-grade students proficient or better, compared to the district's 12.75% and the state's 26.29%. Additionally, there are wide performance gaps between different student subgroups, such as African American and Hispanic students, suggesting the need for targeted interventions and support to address these disparities.

While Greenbriar Elementary's performance is generally lower than the nearby schools, some of the other schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District and Crowley Independent School District also struggle with low academic achievement, indicating that the challenges faced by Greenbriar may be systemic within the broader region. However, higher-performing charter schools, such as Texas School of the Arts and Harmony Science Academy, demonstrate that alternative educational models can produce better academic outcomes in the same geographic area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote How can this school even get one star? It is below poor! I pulled my daughter out not even one month into the school year. She is Chinese and Caucasin. The teacher made a mistake, and called her hispanic one day. My child told her that she was Asian. From then on, the kids were so terrible to her. It literally took me 2 hours to calm her down from crying when she got home. The principal would sit in her office and would not let anyone disturb her. She even had it noted on her door. However the assistant principal tried. He should be the Principal, he is qualified for the job. Not her. One day I came to pick my daughter up, and she is nowhere to be found. They let her run off by herself! I told the Principal that. I only one time got to talk to, that it was not to happen. She said they are not responsible for them after school. My child was standing on the curb crying, thinking I had forgotten about her. Also I have seen that principal out there putting her hands in kids faces and yelling at them. That is very unacceptable. I know nothing will be done about this. That is how F.W.I.S.D. works. Seems to have been that way since I was a kid. When it comes to my child. I bring her up to be as respectful as possible. But to not let these other kids run her down. She dont deserve it. She was treated so unfairly. If I knew of anyway possible to sue the S.D. I would so I could pay for her to go to a good school.I hope that another child never has to endure what my child did. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
