Elkins Elementary

Summary:

Elkins Elementary is a public elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, serving 656 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Eagle Mt-Saginaw Independent School District (ISD), which is ranked 563 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Elkins Elementary faces several academic challenges, with STAAR test scores generally below the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics. For example, in 2023-2024, only 22.94% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in STAAR Mathematics, compared to 35.57% for the district and 40.86% for the state. The school's performance on STAAR Reading and Science is also lower than nearby schools like Lake Country Elementary, Remington Point Elementary, and Dozier Elementary, which have higher proficiency rates and better statewide rankings. However, Elkins Elementary outperforms the nearby Iltexas Saginaw Elementary, a public charter school, in both reading and mathematics STAAR scores.

Elkins Elementary's diverse student population includes 32.77% Hispanic, 25.91% African American, 23.63% White, and 10.98% Asian students. The school has a relatively high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 57.32% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023. This high percentage of economically disadvantaged students may contribute to the school's lower academic performance compared to nearby schools with lower percentages of low-income students. Despite these challenges, Elkins Elementary continues to provide a valuable educational experience for its students, and efforts to address the academic needs of all student subgroups could help the school regain its higher ranking and rating in the future.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Looks like she sits behind a desk way to much. My kid has been body slammed, punched and called dumb...he is six years old. I sit at the school all day because its not safe and they wont transfer him Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
