Lamar Elementary

Summary:

Lamar Elementary is a public elementary school serving pre-kindergarten through 4th grade students in The Woodlands, Texas, which is part of the Conroe Independent School District. The school has seen a shift in its student racial makeup in recent years, with a decrease in White students and an increase in Hispanic students.

Lamar Elementary's academic performance on STAAR tests is generally higher than the state average but lower than the Conroe ISD average, with stronger performance on Spanish tests compared to the district and state. The school's rankings for different student subgroups vary significantly, with strong performance for Asian and male students but struggles for African American, Hispanic, and special education students. The school's Gifted and Talented student rankings have also fluctuated. Lamar Elementary has seen a steady increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, and its per-student spending and student-teacher ratio have also increased in recent years.

Compared to nearby schools like Ride Elementary and David Elementary, which are also part of Conroe ISD, Lamar Elementary's academic performance is generally lower. These nearby schools have significantly higher statewide rankings. The nearby Thrive Center for Success charter school, on the other hand, has lower STAAR test scores and a much lower statewide ranking compared to Lamar Elementary and the other nearby public schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter attended Lamar for two years simply because we could not afford another placement. The education is one size fits all and the children are CONSTANTLY reminded about the STAAR tests throughout the year. It is well known that the teachers and PTO have friction with the principal and that the students are frightened of her. Children are not allowed to use the bathroom during lunch and if they do are penalized by losing five minutes of playground time. During our years at Lamar I was a frequent volunteer and cringed at all they yelling from the specialist teachers as well as anyone on duty during lunch. Anything over a murmur and they are chastised and told they must eat in silence. If your child already attends this school you may be surprised about what they have to say once you start asking questions. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
