Gene M Reed Elementary is a public elementary school in Allen, Texas, serving 477 students in grades K-6. The school is part of the Allen Independent School District, which is ranked 61 out of 968 districts in Texas and has a 5-star rating.

Gene M Reed Elementary has a relatively diverse student population, with 48.64% White, 13% African American, 22.43% Hispanic, 7.34% Asian, and 6.92% two or more races. This diversity is higher than some nearby schools like Jenny Preston Elementary and Beverly Cheatham Elementary, which have higher concentrations of Asian and White students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by STAAR test scores, is generally lower than the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics.

Gene M Reed Elementary's performance varies across different student subgroups. The school ranks highly for special education students (5 out of 5 stars) and gifted and talented students (5 out of 5 stars), but lower for English language learners (1 out of 5 stars) and multi-racial students (2 out of 5 stars). The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 32.42% to 43.88% over the past three school years, which is higher than some nearby schools. Despite these challenges, the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, suggesting more individualized attention for students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son is a new kindergartener here. I was unprepared at how prepared they are here in Allen ISD. My niece is a Junior at Allen HS and it's better run than the university I attended.... no joke. They are completely dialed in as far as organization, quality of education, technology, student culture, parent involvement....it was frankly a little overwhelming to have all the opportunities to get involved in our kids' educations.
Definitely a very, very good problem to have. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
