Life School Mountain Creek

Summary:

Life School Mountain Creek is a public charter elementary school serving 261 students in grades K-8 in Dallas, Texas. The school is part of the Life School District, which is ranked 757 out of 968 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Life School Mountain Creek has a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (73.56%) compared to nearby schools, its academic performance consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Texas elementary schools. The school's STAAR assessment scores are significantly below state and district averages across all grade levels and subject areas, particularly for student subgroups like females, males, Hispanics, English Language Learners, Special Education, and At-Risk students. Despite spending more per student ($12,074 in 2020-2021) than the state average, the school's performance has declined over the past few years.

In contrast, some nearby public schools, such as La Academia De Estrellas and Ume Preparatory Academy, demonstrate stronger academic performance and higher rankings within the state. While Life School Mountain Creek has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, this does not appear to be a key factor in its academic struggles, suggesting a need for a comprehensive review of its educational strategies, resource allocation, and support systems to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote Bullies allowed to flourish. Staff turnover is so high that the ones allowed in don't even have to be certified anymore i.e., the lunch lady taught the 2nd semester of the school year without proper training and certifications. It's ghetto they get more money if you say that you are poor and need reduced lunch, so even though you know you are not poor and your income is well above their average, they will falsify your documents to get the desired state funding. We paid cash for our child's lunch, and they would restrict what they could eat because they claimed it wasn't fair to the other kids on free lunch and will not let you bring lunch to sit with them and eat. Also, there is no library in the school if your child reads above their grade level, they will not be allowed to read other books. They even reprimanded the teacher for giving them an 8th-grade book from home. They do not give out homework because this school was made for the demographic it rents from: first-gen Mexican Americans who were not taught to read at home and whose families are not English literate. I could write a book on the half-baked principal and clueless VP, but what is essential to know is that they are unconcerned with your child's wellbeing. The DPD officer they hire keeps them (staff safe), not your student who is being threatened with knives in the girl's restroom nor the teacher that is heard across the hall by other teachers verbally assaulting them. The Principal, VP, or Superintendent will NOT be willing to pay the medical costs for the physical violence that your children endure here. They will try to talk you out of pressing charges on violent little privileged white boys who have seen too much of daddy hitting mommy at home and thought it would be nice to try it out on a classmate. The school is poor, constantly asking for donations and supplies for the classroom and PE if the church next door didn't rent to them, they wouldn't have a playground or gym. Still, without jump ropes or hoola hoops and balls, no wonder the kids are fighting each other. The teachers are in such a rush to leave this dump that none of them dare volunteer to run the UIL programs, so don't send your Chessmaster or brainiacs here because they will not be further nurtured and challenged. Field trips, kids like and NEED these to learn about the world around them, but going here won't guarantee they will get one each year (yes, they only allow ONE a year if they can afford it). Lastly, when you unenroll your star child that basically carries the school due to their STAAR test scores, be prepared for the multitude of harassing calls and emails the admin will send you because they are upset that you have removed them. We had to go to the district (DISD) to make them cease the unwarranted communication. It was a nightmare that our family (and the 3 other families and 2 teachers that followed) will never forget. Open Quote Multiple teachers not certified in multiple tested grade levels. The principal herself is not certified to lead a campus and is hardly ever there. Close Quote

Open Quote The principal is not even certified to be a principal and the way the school staff treats the kids is horrid. They are a "life school", supposed to encourage kids and build their moral, neither of which they do. The school last year2017-2018 was great, this year, 2018-2019, not so much. I'm sure it has to do with the principal not knowing how to do her job. And the white kids are differently treated differently then the other kids, the kids if color get away with everything, hile the white kids get punished harshly. My kids will definitely be attending another school next year if there is availability elsewhere!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
