Ritta Elementary

Summary:

Ritta Elementary is a public elementary school in Knoxville, Tennessee, serving 572 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Knox County School District. While the school has a higher percentage of White students compared to nearby schools, its academic performance, as measured by test scores, is generally lower than the county and state averages across all grades and subjects.

Ritta Elementary's rankings for specific student subgroups, such as Female Students, Male Students, and African American Students, are in the middle to lower range compared to other Tennessee elementary schools. The school's performance for Special Education students is particularly low, ranking 539 out of 577 Tennessee elementary schools. These challenges may be influenced by the school's high percentage of low-income students, as indicated by the free and reduced-price lunch rate.

Nearby schools, such as Gibbs Elementary, Shannondale Elementary, and Halls Elementary, generally outperform Ritta Elementary in academic measures, suggesting that Ritta could benefit from learning from their practices and strategies. Additionally, the presence of the KCS Virtual Elementary School in the area provides an alternative educational option for families in the Ritta Elementary attendance zone.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I would say just don't send your child to Ritta Elementary. The principals are just trying to keep their jobs, not a lot of concern for the students. Most of the good teachers have left this school and the behavior of some of the students is horrible. If you have a child that is not used to seeing that, it can be scary. The principals do nothing about it. If you can, go to Shannondale Elementary, it's not far away. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
