Summary:

Adrian Burnett Elementary is a public elementary school in Knoxville, Tennessee that serves 496 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Knox County school district, which is ranked 72 out of 139 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Adrian Burnett Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools like Halls Elementary and Brickey McCloud Elementary, its academic performance on TNReady tests is generally lower than the Knox County and Tennessee state averages. The school's proficiency rates in Mathematics (31.4%) and English Language Arts (38.3%) were below the Knox County (40.3% and 41.2%) and Tennessee (39.7% and 37.6%) averages in the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, Adrian Burnett Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Tennessee elementary schools and maintains a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Interestingly, the school's racial diversity has been trending towards less diversity over the past few years, with the percentage of White students increasing and the percentage of Hispanic students decreasing. When compared to nearby schools, such as Shannondale Elementary, Adrian Burnett Elementary generally performs worse academically, despite the school's increased per-student spending from $10,677 in 2018-2019 to $11,067 in 2020-2021. The school's leadership and the Knox County school district should closely examine these issues and develop targeted strategies to address the specific needs of the school's diverse student population and improve overall academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Growing up, I always hated school. Adrian Burnett is a run down, crappy school with bad teachers and poor education. When I came to Halls Middle, I had a way better time learning. Also, they steal the NFL Arizona Cardinals logo and claim it's their own. But, it isn't, Plus, I'm a Tennessee Titans fan. All the kids acted like the kids from South Park and the detention is too strict for kids. Overall, come here if you want your kid to grow up to a mule. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
