East North Street Academy

Summary:

East North Street Academy is an elementary school in Greenville, South Carolina, serving students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Greenville 01 School District. With a diverse student population, the school stands out for its strong performance in serving African American and Hispanic students, despite facing challenges common to high-poverty schools.

Compared to nearby schools like Augusta Circle Elementary and Stone Academy, East North Street Academy has a significantly higher percentage of African American and Hispanic students. While its overall test scores are lower than district and state averages, the school has shown particular strengths in 3rd grade mathematics, where its proficiency rate exceeds the broader benchmarks. Notably, the school's African American and Hispanic students perform among the top 25% and 15% of South Carolina elementary schools, respectively.

Despite serving a 100% free and reduced lunch population, East North Street Academy has maintained a consistent 3-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years. This suggests the school is effectively supporting its diverse, high-poverty student body, potentially aided by its relatively high per-student spending of around $12,700. East North Street Academy's unique student demographics and strong subgroup outcomes provide valuable insights that could benefit other schools serving similar communities.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I strongly disagree with your ratings. ENSA tested above many of the schools you have ranked above them. In fact, schools that only received a “Good” rating are ranked above them when they received an “Excellent” this year. Your statistics are off on multiple areas. Visit this school once and you will see the amazing things they are doing. I hope people read this review and realize how biased your reviews are and search a different site. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
