Chandler Creek Elementary

Summary:

Chandler Creek Elementary is a public elementary school in Greer, South Carolina, serving 914 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Greenville 01 School District, which is ranked 14th out of 75 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

Chandler Creek Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 43.33% White, 22.1% African American, 27.57% Hispanic, and other minority groups. Additionally, the school has a 100% free and reduced lunch rate, indicating a high percentage of students from low-income families. This is significantly higher than the nearby schools, such as Brushy Creek Elementary, Skyland Elementary, and Buena Vista Elementary, which have free and reduced lunch rates ranging from 39.23% to 87.44%.

Despite its diverse student population and high poverty rate, Chandler Creek Elementary's academic performance, as measured by the percentage of students proficient or better in SC READY/English Language Arts and Mathematics, is generally lower than the Greenville 01 district and the state averages. The school's statewide ranking has also declined over the years, from 197th out of 624 South Carolina elementary schools in 2017-2018 to 320th out of 638 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. These challenges may be attributed to the school's high-poverty, diverse student population, which research has shown can impact student achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Chandler Creek Elementary is growing in leaps and bounds. The school has recently gone Title 1, which means that we have federal funds to help expand our technology, hire more teachers and offer support to students and parents alike. Of all the schools my children have attended, Chandler Creek Elementary ranks #1. Mrs. Mills, the current principal, and her staff truly care about each child and their success in the classroom and beyond. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
