Saint Clair Area El/Middle School

Summary:

Saint Clair Area El/Middle School is a public elementary and middle school serving 532 students in grades K-8 in the town of Saint Clair, Pennsylvania, which is part of the Tamaqua Area School District.

The school has some academic strengths, with math and science proficiency rates above the state average, particularly in the elementary grades. However, its English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates lag behind the state average, especially in the middle school grades. The school serves a relatively high-need population, with 67% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, but it performs better than expected for low-income and disabled students. Compared to nearby schools, Saint Clair Area El/Middle School generally outperforms lower-ranked schools in the region, but it falls behind the higher-performing Blue Mountain School District schools.

While the school has maintained a 0% dropout rate, its overall statewide ranking has declined in recent years, suggesting that it may be struggling to keep pace with improvements in other schools across Pennsylvania. The school's relatively low ELA performance, particularly in the upper grades, presents an opportunity for targeted interventions and instructional strategies to improve student outcomes in this subject area. With continued focus on data-driven instruction and support for struggling students, Saint Clair Area El/Middle School can build upon its academic strengths and work to address areas for improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote There are 18-23 kids per teacher, so if a child has needs they are very likely to NOT get them met. The school constantly will try an pull more and more money from your child as in higher amount asked for field trips penny drive food drive dollar donations etc. staff has tendency to lie about situations to cover their own butts and the children of family members that were involved since they are all related to one another!!!! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
