Rupert Elementary School

Summary:

Rupert Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 349 students in grades PK-4 in the Pottstown School District in Pennsylvania. Despite its diverse student population, the school has consistently underperformed, ranking in the bottom quarter of Pennsylvania elementary schools with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Rupert Elementary's academic performance, as measured by PSSA test scores, is significantly below state and district averages across all subjects and grade levels. In 2022-2023, only 33% of students were proficient or better in Math, compared to the state average of 39.3% and the Pottstown School District average of 17.1%. In English Language Arts, 34.8% of Rupert students were proficient or better, compared to the state average of 53.8% and the district average of 27.1%. However, the school's performance in Science is slightly better, with 69.3% of students proficient or better, compared to the state average of 65.6% and the district average of 48.7%. The school's high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, at 100%, suggests that socioeconomic factors may be a significant contributor to the academic challenges.

Compared to nearby schools in the Pottstown district, such as Barth Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, and Franklin Elementary, Rupert Elementary's academic performance is generally lower, with these schools having higher PSSA proficiency rates and better SchoolDigger rankings. However, Rupert's relatively low student-teacher ratio of 13.9 students per teacher could be a potential advantage if leveraged effectively.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Devoted staff. This school is outdated & unable to handle some of the most basic needs of students. While the staff is devoted to the kids they have few resources. Lack of parental involvement, in some cases, detracts from overall learning experiences for some with frequent disciplinary issues needing attention. Curricula seems to be behind higher ranking schools. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
