Summary:

Saegertown Junior/Senior High School outperforms the Penncrest School District and the state of Pennsylvania in several key academic areas, including PSSA English Language Arts and Science proficiency, as well as Keystone Exams Literature proficiency. However, the school lags behind the district and state in PSSA Math proficiency. Interestingly, male students at Saegertown rank higher than female students, and the school's performance on academic metrics has fluctuated over the years, with the school ranking as high as 111 out of 591 Pennsylvania high schools in 2012-2013 and as low as 459 out of 663 in 2016-2017.

Compared to nearby schools, Saegertown outperforms Maplewood Junior/Senior High School and Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School in most academic areas, but lags behind the high-performing Fort LeBoeuf Senior High School, which is in a different district. The school's relatively high percentage of economically disadvantaged students may contribute to the lower performance of this subgroup compared to the state and district averages, despite the school's higher-than-average spending per student.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am impressed with the education my son and daughter have received. Even with the pandemic, the school staff has consistently provided engaging work. And the addition of several AP classes over the past few years has definitely increased opportunity for high achieving students. Close Quote

Open Quote This school provides a solid education with great opportunities for kids. The staff is caring and involved, and the small class sizes ensure that no one slips through the cracks. Great sports, music, and academic teams as well. In addition, they have one to one technology (iPads) which is quite progressive for a small, rural district. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
