Summary:

East Pennsboro Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Enola, Pennsylvania, serving 588 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the East Pennsboro Area School District, which is ranked 284 out of 606 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While East Pennsboro Elementary School has a relatively diverse student population, with 64.29% White, 8.33% African American, 10.37% Hispanic, and 3.91% Asian students, its academic performance, as measured by PSSA test scores, is generally on par with or slightly below the state and district averages. The school's proficiency rates in Math (44.3%), Science (75.9%), and English Language Arts (48.8%) are close to the state and district averages. However, the school's academic performance lags behind some of the nearby schools, such as Eisenhower Elementary School in the Camp Hill School District, which significantly outperforms East Pennsboro Elementary across all academic measures.

Another notable factor is the high percentage of students (49.49%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch at East Pennsboro Elementary School, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families compared to some of the nearby schools, such as Hampden Elementary (26.79%) and Shaull Elementary (20.04%), which are part of the higher-performing Cumberland Valley School District. This suggests that socioeconomic factors may be influencing the school's academic performance, and addressing the needs of students from low-income families could be an important area of focus for the school and district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter attended this school for four years. Except for one kindergarten teacher, other teachers didn't seem to be motivated to teach and lacked sufficient experience. There is not enough importance given to homework. Students' strengths and weaknesses were not properly recognized and addressed. We were not satisfied with the overall program. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
