Butte Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Butte Creek Elementary School is a public K-8 school in Mount Angel, Oregon, serving 297 students as part of the Silver Falls School District 4J. While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to nearby schools, its academic performance on state assessments tends to lag behind both district and state averages.

Butte Creek Elementary consistently ranks in the middle range of Oregon elementary schools, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics below the district and state levels across all grade levels. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with female students generally outperforming their male counterparts, and Hispanic students and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds tending to perform lower than their White peers. In comparison, nearby schools like Evergreen Elementary School and Bethany Charter School have significantly higher proficiency rates, often exceeding district and state averages.

The school's lower academic performance, particularly in Mathematics, suggests a need for targeted interventions and support to improve student learning outcomes. Additionally, the performance gaps between different student subgroups indicate a potential opportunity to explore more equitable educational practices and provide additional resources for underperforming groups. By examining the strategies and best practices of higher-performing nearby schools, Butte Creek Elementary may be able to identify effective approaches to enhance the educational experience for all its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great small K-8 school with some excellent teachers. Unfortunately there are a some subpar teachers that teach several grades. Principal does not engage parents productively with complaints, instead is defensive to the point of being intimidating. He does not seem to spend adequate time monitoring classrooms. Teacher curriculums are not published or provided to parents or students by most teachers. Like any school, you need to take an active interest in your students education and be an advocate for them when they are not receiving adequate instruction.

Budget problems have lead to deferred maintenance and textbooks are often shared and can't be brought home.

Some really fantastic teachers, great kids and teachers that volunteer to provide extracurricular activities. Secretary is fantastic and knows all of the kids. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
