Humbolt Elementary School

Summary:

Humbolt Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Canyon City, Oregon, serving grades K-6 with a total enrollment of 242 students. The school is part of the John Day School District 3, which is ranked 15 out of 140 school districts in Oregon and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Humbolt Elementary School has shown a mixed academic performance, with some strengths and areas for improvement. While the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics were generally higher than the state averages, they were lower than the district averages. The school's female students have consistently outperformed their male counterparts, and the school's white students have performed better than the overall student population. However, the school's special education students and low socioeconomic status students have struggled, with lower rankings compared to their peers. Interestingly, the nearby Seneca Elementary School, which is also part of the John Day School District 3, has a much smaller enrollment of 12 students and a lower student-teacher ratio of 6.

Humbolt Elementary School's higher spending per student of $19,696 for the 2021-2022 school year, compared to the state average, may indicate that the school is investing more resources in its students. However, it would be important to understand how these funds are being utilized and whether they are translating into improved student outcomes. The school's fluctuating statewide ranking and the disparities in student group performance suggest that the school may need to focus on addressing these achievement gaps and ensuring equitable outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The Special ed teacher cant work with with special needs children. They Forced my child out of the program using coercion and pressure. She Told me if I dont put him into another school he would likely commit suicide. They Separated my child from classroom then after he became behind refused to help him connect with peers. Or get back in class they Told me my son is to far behind to ever go back to class again. And they cant help to teach my child again unless I sign him to half day schedules. They put him on the computer to pacify him all day long and would not work with him and isolated him from everyone daily. My child never learned much or enjoyed this school. I am transferring him into a custom learning program online. He is always happy at home and at church school programs he hates going to this school to get ignored. Isolated and treated like an outcast by both teachers and his peers. The teachers let him get bullied on the playground. This school is out of control parents with special needs kids shouldn't go to this school please go somewhere else. They are unequipped and unwilling or qualified to teach your special needs child. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
