Central Intermediate School

Summary:

Central Intermediate School is a public middle school in Bixby, Oklahoma, serving 422 students in grades 4-6. While the school is part of the Bixby school district, it faces some unique challenges compared to its neighboring schools.

Central Intermediate School has lower proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math compared to the Bixby district and the state of Oklahoma. For example, in 2022-2023, only 31% of 5th graders were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 39% for Bixby and 28% for Oklahoma. The school also has a significantly higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, at 43.36%, compared to other Bixby intermediate schools (15.95% - 28.27%) and Bixby Middle School (22.37%). However, Central Intermediate has a lower student-teacher ratio of 15.8, compared to the other Bixby intermediate schools (16.3 - 18.8) and Bixby Middle School (19.0).

Interestingly, Central Intermediate School has seen a decline in proficiency rates over the past three years, while the Bixby district and state have generally maintained or improved their scores. The school also has a more diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic, Native American, and students of two or more races, compared to the other Bixby intermediate schools. Additionally, Central Intermediate is located just 0.68 miles away from Bixby Middle School, the largest middle school in the district, which may contribute to the lower test scores and higher free/reduced lunch rates at Central Intermediate.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Worst site at BPS! If you were to take a poll from parents and students of those that have experienced hatefulness, bullying, and violence versus those that have not then you’d see what I mean. That’s not even the 1/2 of it! CI is known for having upper-level admin and much of the staff themselves that allow this to occur. Instead of helping those that have been hurt, bullied and beat up, they’d rather punish them than the actual guilty parties. How do you think all of the above impacts the learning environment huh??? About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
