Miamisburg Middle School

Summary:

Miamisburg Middle School is a public middle school serving around 1,160 students in grades 6-8 in Miamisburg, Ohio, which is part of the Miamisburg City School District. The school's academic performance has declined in recent years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 314 out of 1,010 Ohio middle schools in 2017-2018 to 479 out of 1,046 in 2023-2024. While the school's performance on state tests is mixed, with some grades and subjects performing above the state and district averages, others are below, particularly in 6th-grade math.

Miamisburg Middle School faces significant challenges, including a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, from 7.9% in 2019-2020 to 27.7% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the state average. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, at 43.53% in 2022-2023, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Compared to nearby high-performing schools, such as Magsig Middle School and Springboro Junior High School, Miamisburg Middle School's academic performance is generally lower, with lower state rankings and test scores.

However, the school's gifted and talented program appears to be a strength, with the school ranking 2nd out of 173 Ohio middle schools in 2022-2023 for this subgroup. Additionally, the school's performance for certain student subgroups, such as African American and multi-racial students, is relatively strong compared to the state averages for those subgroups, indicating potential areas of focus for the school's improvement efforts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The worst school my son ever went to. Teachers and students bullied my son. Principal did nothing about it ever and lied to cover up bullying. My son would litterally have panic attacks about being bullied by a few of teachers. Don't send your child here, unless you want your child to be tormented and have faculty contribute to it! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
