Valleyview Elementary School

Summary:

Valleyview Elementary School is a public elementary school in Columbus, Ohio, serving 286 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Columbus City Schools District, which has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger and ranks 679 out of 839 districts in Ohio.

Valleyview Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of Ohio elementary schools, with a ranking between 1230-1476 out of around 1,600 schools over the past several years. The school struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, reaching as high as 69.1% in the 2021-2022 school year, which is significantly higher than the state average and the surrounding schools like Eakin Elementary, Binns Elementary, and West Broad Elementary. Academically, Valleyview's proficiency rates on Ohio state tests are consistently below the district and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas.

Interestingly, Valleyview's per-student spending and student-teacher ratio are on par with the surrounding schools, suggesting that factors beyond just funding and class size may be contributing to the school's challenges. The nearby Zenith Academy West and Educational Academy for Boys & Girls charter schools have shown mixed results, with some outperforming Valleyview in certain subject areas but still struggling overall, indicating that the issues at Valleyview may be systemic within the Columbus City Schools District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The K teacher provided information to us about the curriculum for year. This information provided us that ability to focus our child's learning outside of the classroom.

With this working relationship between us and the kindergarten teacher, our child received Honors by school end.

I'm am looking forward to working with the 1st grade teacher in continuing our child's ability to learn and grow!

A proud Valleyview Parent. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
