Cahill School

Summary:

Cahill School is an elementary school located in Saugerties, New York, serving grades K-6 with a total enrollment of 398 students. It is part of the Saugerties Central School District, which is ranked 481 out of 865 school districts in New York and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cahill School has shown mixed performance on state assessments compared to the district and state averages. In 2023-2024, the school outperformed the district and state in 3rd and 6th grade ELA, as well as 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade Math, but underperformed in 4th grade ELA and Math. Over the past few years, Cahill School's performance has fluctuated, ranking between 1147 and 1923 out of around 2,400 New York elementary schools. The school's performance is particularly strong for Hispanic and Special Education students, ranking in the top half of New York elementary schools for these subgroups, but it struggles with low-socioeconomic status students, ranking in the bottom quarter of New York elementary schools for this subgroup.

Cahill School's performance is generally on par with or slightly better than the other schools in the Saugerties Central School District, such as Morse School and Riccardi Elementary School. However, when compared to schools in other nearby districts, such as the higher-performing Mill Road-Intermediate Grades in the Red Hook Central School District, Cahill School's performance appears less impressive. The school's relatively high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio suggest that resources are available, but the challenge lies in effectively utilizing these resources to address the unique needs of the student population and improve overall academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote For the most part, I have had positive experiences sending my children to Cahill Elementary School. The staff makes an effort to maintain a warm and welcoming environment in the school. Many of the teachers genuinely enjoy teaching and go the extra mile for their students. Close Quote

Open Quote Cahill is a wonderful school. It's bright and cheerful and modern, and the staff make the place feel very welcoming and positive for the kids. And the kids all seem eager to be there. I've had kids going there for many years now and for the most part, their teachers have been excellent. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
