D'Youville-Porter Campus

Summary:

D'Youville-Porter Campus is an elementary school serving grades PK-8 with 582 students in Buffalo, New York, which is part of the Buffalo City School District. Unfortunately, this school has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of New York elementary schools over the past decade, with a current ranking of 2422 out of 2445 schools.

The school's academic performance is a major concern, with only 10.64% of 3rd graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 21.61% for the district and 42.6% for the state. This underperformance is particularly pronounced for certain student subgroups, such as African American and Hispanic students, as well as English Language Learners and students with special needs. Despite spending $14,257 per student, which is higher than the district average, the school's struggles do not seem to be due to a lack of funding, as its student-teacher ratio of 9.8 is lower than the district and state averages.

When comparing D'Youville-Porter Campus to other schools in the same district, such as Frank A Sedita School #30, Dr A Pantoja Community School Excllnce -#18, and Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy, the performance gap is evident. These schools, while still underperforming compared to the state, consistently outperform D'Youville-Porter Campus. Additionally, several nearby Elmwood Village Charter School Days Park, West Buffalo Charter School, and Enterprise Charter School also outperform the school, suggesting that the school choice model may be a factor in improving student outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Do yourselves the favor and do your elementary school research before choosing or sending your children to D'youville Porter Pathetic Campus #3 in the future!! Close Quote

Open Quote Most second-rate school ever known to any child! This school does not even deserve one star, it deserves a zero in ratings all together. Not one pro! It is an incompetent school with inept teachers and staff members who cannot even grade correctly, so you'd have to pull them aside and make them fix your grades. Their system is awful! Not to mention the breakfasts which includes cereal with no milk, no utensils, or something that is unknown or inedible. Lunches are under cooked and can not be identified. Mostly everyday they serve a bunch of garbage like pizza, pasta and other sickly foods. Very seldom is healthy food served. The Rude lunch ladies could also care less. So it's either eat their crappy lunches or starve till you get home. You better have a strong stomach if you do eat there. You have to wash your hands in freezing cold water in the bathrooms and sometimes there's nothing to dry your hands with! The attire is also appalling. It is a makeshift uniform where everyone is wearing different colored yellow shirts and blue or khaki pants (probably something they made up) which is mandatory. If you do not wear it, they call you up with others and either, send home a letter indicating if you do not wear that ghetto homemade uniform you cannot return, or enclose students in a room for a lecture. Staff members could care less about the students and COMPLETE inadequate organization. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to come to this school, Trust me, read and if you care about your child's education DO NOT send them to this deficient school. You will regret the moment you did and your child(ren) will be miserable their whole stay there. This is possibly one of the worse elementary schools in Buffalo, New York. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
