Ps 99 Isaac Asimov

Summary:

Ps 99 Isaac Asimov is an elementary school located in Brooklyn, New York, serving grades PK-8 with a total enrollment of 804 students. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #21, which is ranked 537 out of 865 districts in New York and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Ps 99 Isaac Asimov has consistently ranked in the bottom half of New York elementary schools over the past several years, with a ranking between 1,200-1,600 out of around 2,400 schools. The school's performance on state assessments is generally below the district and state averages across grade levels and subject areas, with particularly weak performance in 8th grade Science (17.46% proficient) and 6th grade Math (28.89% proficient). The school also struggles to support the academic achievement of various student subgroups, with rankings in the bottom half or bottom third of New York elementary schools for Asian, Hispanic, White, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Ps 121 Nelson A Rockefeller, Ps 99 Isaac Asimov generally performs worse on academic measures, with proficiency rates that are 10-20 percentage points lower in many cases. This suggests that the challenges faced by Ps 99 Isaac Asimov may be unique to the school and not necessarily reflective of the broader district or community. To address these issues, the school may need to focus on implementing and sustaining effective instructional practices, as well as providing targeted interventions and support for struggling student subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote as a graduate and therefore an alumni of ps 99 (Pre isaac asimov) although i read his work extensively in those years. at my present age of 67 i can truthfully reflect on the quality education that i began my life and career with. in particular,my french teacher in the sixth, seventh, and eighth, marie a. howes, was by far the best teacher i ever had in my life. she is long gone but most certainly deserves the credit due a caring and beyond excellent teacher. ken lee 908-303-7661 thank you and continued good work Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
