Ps 376

Summary:

PS 376 is an elementary school located in Brooklyn, New York, serving grades K-5 with a total enrollment of 488 students. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #32, which is ranked 764 out of 865 districts in New York and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

PS 376 stands out as a high-performing elementary school, consistently outperforming the district and state averages in standardized test scores for English Language Arts and Math. The school has particularly strong performance among specific student subgroups, ranking 46th out of 927 New York elementary schools for African American students, 380th out of 1,531 for Hispanic students, and 464th out of 2,078 for students of low socioeconomic status, all with 4 or 5 SchoolDigger stars. Over the years, PS 376 has shown significant improvement in its statewide ranking, moving from 1,715th out of 2,345 New York elementary schools in 2013-2014 (1 star) to 703rd out of 2,445 in 2023-2024 (4 stars).

While PS 376 outperforms the district and state averages, the nearby schools in the same district, such as PS 116, PS 86, and PS 75, generally have lower academic performance, with most ranked in the bottom 25% of New York elementary schools. This suggests that PS 376 is an outlier within its district, potentially due to factors such as effective leadership, teaching practices, or student demographics. The school's success may also be influenced by factors common to high-performing charter schools in the area, such as Achievement First-Bushwick and Success Academy Charter School-Bushwick, which also demonstrate high academic achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! THIS IS THE WORST SCHOOL EVER! DO NOT BE FOOLED BY IT'S TEST SCORES. THE PRINCIPAL IS RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND FAKE. THE WORST PTA IN THE AREA. THEY DO NOTHING FOR THE CHILDREN. WHEN I TALK TO OTHER PARENTS FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN THE AREA THEIR PTA IS VERY ACTIVE IN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. I CAN NOT WAIT TILL MY CHILDREN FINISH AND THEY ARE OUT OF THIS SCHOOL. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS SCHOOL. WHEN YOU ENTER THEY TRY TO WHOA YOU WITH THEIR ROBOTS AND TECHNOLOGY BUT THEY LACK IN THEIR EDUCATION. MY CHILDREN ARE STILL STRUGGLING READERS BUT THE SCHOOL IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT PUTTING THEM IN FRONT OF TECHNOLOGY. BEWARE!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
