New Explorations Into Sciencetech And Math High School

Summary:

New Explorations Into Sciencetech And Math High School (NEST+m) is a public magnet school serving grades K-12 with an enrollment of 1,610 students in New York City's Lower East Side. This exceptional school consistently demonstrates outstanding academic performance, with students significantly outpacing the New York City Geographic District #1 and the state of New York in proficiency rates for English Language Arts and Mathematics.

NEST+m's academic excellence is evident across multiple metrics. The school boasts consistently high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 71.3% to 99.4%, and very low dropout rates, much lower than the district and state averages. While the school has relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, it operates efficiently, spending between $10,024 and $13,718 per student, lower than the nearby Nyc Special Schools - District 75, which have significantly higher spending per student and lower student-teacher ratios.

The success of New Explorations Into Sciencetech And Math High School in delivering high-quality education with relatively lower spending and higher student-teacher ratios could provide valuable insights for other schools and districts seeking to improve academic performance and efficiency. The school's track record of academic excellence, high graduation rates, and efficient resource utilization make it a standout example that could serve as a model for educational institutions across the country.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great School, very clean organized and friendly. I have been there since the start, now you might say I never got out so I can't compare...BUT I do know that the halls and classrooms are straight, clean and I've never seen a fight before, and been bullied with words a few times over 10+ years. I'm literally smiling down the hall and everyone including busy administrators and students smile back and greet me. That happened...about...10 times this few months??? There's not too many social groups, people are very diverse. It's not bad to be different or smart; in fact people love it if you are, it's a place to grow and learn. ---S.L Grad Class 2014 Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
