Tesuque Elementary

Summary:

Tesuque Elementary is a small public elementary school in Tesuque, New Mexico, serving grades PK-6 with a total enrollment of 67 students. The school is part of the Santa Fe Public Schools district, which is ranked 74 out of 119 districts in the state.

Tesuque Elementary stands out for its unique student demographics, with a significantly higher percentage of Hispanic (73.13%) and Native American (13.43%) students compared to nearby schools. The school outperforms the state average in Language Arts (39% proficient or better vs. 38% statewide) and Mathematics (27% proficient or better vs. 24% statewide), but its Science scores (27% proficient or better) lag behind the state average of 34%. Notably, Tesuque Elementary has an extremely high percentage of students (100%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. However, the school's low student-teacher ratio of 10:1 is significantly lower than the nearby schools and the state average.

Tesuque Elementary's performance has fluctuated over the years, ranging from a 4-star rating in 2014-2015 to a 2-star rating in 2010-2011. While the school outperforms the state average in some areas, it lags behind high-performing schools like Acequia Madre Elementary and Wood-Gormley Elementary, which rank among the top 5% of New Mexico elementary schools. The school's unique challenges, including its high poverty and low diversity, may require targeted strategies to address the needs of its economically disadvantaged and less diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote After meeting the principal we decided to enroll in Tesuque Elementary. Our child is in Pre-K and we could not be happier with the teachers, facilities and the leadership. The school is in a new phase with fresh leadership. Facilities are great and the class sizes are very small. The teachers really care about the students and we could not be happier with our decision. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
