Rudolfo Anaya Elementary

Summary:

Rudolfo Anaya Elementary is a public elementary school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, serving 592 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Albuquerque Public Schools district, which is ranked 78 out of 119 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Rudolfo Anaya Elementary faces significant challenges in supporting its predominantly Hispanic (86.15%) and economically disadvantaged student population. The school consistently ranks in the bottom quarter of New Mexico elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years. Its proficiency rates in Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science are significantly lower than the state and district averages, with only 27%, 10%, and 20% of students proficient or better, respectively, in the 2022-2023 school year. The school struggles to support its student subgroups, with low rankings for African American, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students. However, the school's relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 12.6 to 13.4 over the past few years, could be an asset in providing more individualized attention to students.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Carlos Rey Elementary and Mission Achievement and Success 2.0 (a charter school), generally outperform Rudolfo Anaya Elementary in academic proficiency, despite serving predominantly Hispanic and economically disadvantaged student populations. This suggests a need for a comprehensive review of Rudolfo Anaya Elementary's instructional practices, curriculum, and support systems to identify and implement evidence-based strategies that can drive meaningful improvement for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have first grader at Rudolfo Anaya and I believe that the school is above average. They may be considered a failing school but they strive to teach our students at the highest level. The 2 teachers that my daughter has had so far are excellent teachers! My daughter is reading at a third grade level and I believe it is from the attentiveness of the teachers. We have to consider that the reason that some students are failing is due to the fact that their parents are not taking a vested interest in their child's education. Learning does not end when you leave the halls of Rudolfo Anaya, it needs to continue at home as well. The Principal and Vice Principal always make time for parents who have concerns or questions about the school or their child's progress at Rudolfo Anaya. It is a beautiful school with all the latest technology and any parent should be proud to say that their son or daughter attends Rudolfo Anaya. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
