Somerset County Vocational Technical High School

Summary:

Somerset County Vocational Technical High School is a public high school serving 343 students in grades 9-12 in Bridgewater, New Jersey. This high-performing school consistently ranks among the top high schools in the state, outperforming nearby schools like Hillsborough High School and Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

The school's academic performance is exceptional, with 79.4% of 9th-grade students proficient or better in NJSLA/English Language Arts, compared to the state average of 52.1%. This strong performance extends across the student body, with the school's Asian students ranking 2nd out of 172 New Jersey high schools. Additionally, Somerset County Vocational Technical High School maintains a high 94.4% four-year graduation rate, well above the state average.

While the school's overall performance is outstanding, the data suggests that certain student groups, such as White and Special Education students, may be underperforming compared to their peers. This could be an area for the school to focus on to ensure equitable outcomes for all students. Overall, Somerset County Vocational Technical High School's exceptional academic performance, diverse student population, and low student-teacher ratio make it an attractive option for families in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District and the surrounding Manville School District and Somerville Public School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school. So much more than a place for learning technical skills. Need to visit to really know just how under rated it is!!! Principal takes a lot of pride in his work and it shows.

Incredible performing Arts program, Culinary program. Many kids bused over from their home school for afternoon classes. Now, it is a great option becuase it is a fully acredited college preparatory HS. Terrific, dedicated teachers and smaller class sizes than many district schools in the area. Facility better kept than BRHS. Some very competitive sport teams as well. Science Acadmey is there too; a high school program that partners with RVCC. Students graduate with 2 degrees, high shcool and their 2yr. Associate degree from RVCC. Any school that fully articulates with RVCC will accept the credits and student can for example start as a junior at Rutgers or Ryder!! This is a highly academic program. Students test into the program. Class sizes are small and all the teachers really know your child by name! (You are not a SS#) Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
