Alpha Borough School

Summary:

Alpha Borough School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the small town of Alpha, New Jersey, with 169 students enrolled. While the school has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, its academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally below the state average across grade levels and subject areas.

The school's proficiency rates on the NJSLA assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science are all lower than the state averages. This underperformance is particularly pronounced in Mathematics, where the school's proficiency rates range from just 7.7% in 8th grade to 50.1% in 4th grade, compared to the state averages of 19.4% to 47.6%. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with female, White, special education, and low-income students struggling the most. Additionally, Alpha Borough School has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, which may be contributing to its academic challenges.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Franklin Township School and Harmony Township School, Alpha Borough School generally performs worse academically, with lower proficiency rates across subject areas. The school's location within the Alpha Borough School District, which is ranked 355 out of 613 districts in New Jersey and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, may also be a contributing factor to its academic struggles.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Worst school ever! The staff bullies the kids just as much as the students. Only a few good teachers the rest are nasty towards the children. The old superintendent cared more about smoothing things and pretending they didn't happen so he could leave with a clean slate. Poor poor school! We are moving mostly because of the school system. Should have never left private school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
