Litchfield Middle School

Summary:

Litchfield Middle School is a public middle school serving 355 students in grades 5-8 in Litchfield, New Hampshire. The school is part of the Litchfield School District, which is ranked 70 out of 163 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Litchfield Middle School has a significantly higher percentage of white students (88.17%) compared to the state average, its academic performance lags behind many nearby schools. The school's mathematics proficiency rates (29%) are consistently lower than the state (41%) and district averages, and its science proficiency rates (26%) are significantly lower than the state average (36%). Interestingly, female students at Litchfield Middle School perform better than male students, ranking 62nd out of 110 NH middle schools for females and 84th out of 113 for males. Additionally, the school's special education students rank 20th out of 48 NH middle schools, suggesting they perform better than the overall student population.

Compared to nearby schools, such as Fairgrounds Middle School and McKelvie Intermediate School, Litchfield Middle School's academic performance, particularly in mathematics and science, is significantly lower. The school's relatively low free and reduced-price lunch rates (7.91% to 9.3%) and student-teacher ratio (11.3 to 11.8) suggest that factors beyond just socioeconomic status and staffing levels may be contributing to the school's academic challenges. Overall, Litchfield Middle School's declining performance and equity issues among its student population indicate the need for the school to closely examine its instructional practices, resource allocation, and support systems to improve outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I am thrilled with the schools here. Well the Elementary and Middle School at least. I have no children in High School yet.

I home schooled my son prior to moving to Litchfield, they made his transition into public school almost seamless.

The teachers are, for the most part, innovative and conscientious. They actually seem to LOVE their job! That is the best compliment I can give. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
