Heritage Elementary

Summary:

Heritage Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Wake Forest, North Carolina, serving 622 students in grades PK-5 and part of the Wake County Schools district.

Heritage Elementary consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in North Carolina, with exceptional academic performance that significantly exceeds the averages for Wake County and the state. For example, in 2023-2024, 80% of 3rd graders, 69.6% of 4th graders, and 74.8% of 5th graders at Heritage Elementary were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 69.3%, 66.6%, and 67.8% for Wake County, and 62.7%, 56.6%, and 58.1% for North Carolina, respectively. The school's diverse student population, with 42.77% non-White students, is another notable strength.

While Heritage Elementary performs well overall, there are some disparities in the performance of certain student subgroups, particularly Asian, African American, and low socioeconomic status students. This suggests the school may need to focus on addressing the specific needs of these subgroups to ensure equitable educational outcomes. Compared to nearby schools like Forest Pines Drive Elementary and Wake Forest Elementary, Heritage Elementary stands out as a high-performing institution, making it a desirable choice for families in the area seeking a quality elementary education.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

The specials teachers go above and beyond to support the arts in WCPSS. I am happy to call HES our school home! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
