As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We are ecstatic with our children's experience at Sherrills Ford Elementary! We moved here right before our 5th grader started kindergarten and looked closely at schools before deciding on our neighborhood. We toured many elementary, middle, and high schools and settled on SFES after seeing how engaged the teachers and students were. In the last 6 years, we have been even more impressed every single year! Our oldest has gotten into Lincoln Charter twice, Pine Lake Charter twice (separate years), and each year, we have turned down their offers because we have been so happy with SFES. People think we are nuts until we show them the numbers we found off of the NC Department of Public Instruction's website. We are huge researchers and found that our Sherrills Ford Elementary, Mill Creek Middle, and Bandys High School perform as good as Lincoln Charter and better than Pine Lake Prep, Langtree (by far), and Iredell Charter on every measure. Plus, our kids get to go to school with their friends and neighbors and they can take the bus! (BTW, the buses in Catawba County are all driven by our Teaching Assistants so the kids and parents know them very well. It sure makes us feel more comfortable about putting our 5-year-old on the bus!)

Our 4th-6th grade has a 1:1 Chromebook:Student ratio - it's amazing to see the kinds of things the students are doing at such a young age! The Chromebooks are tools for hands-on teaching and allow the teachers to personalize each student's learning style and experience whether they need a little extra time and support or they are fast learners and desire extra information on the subject. Our school also has close to a 1:1 ratio of robotics:students. I have observed the robotics being used for literacy lessons, math lessons, and STEAM/STEM projects - it's incredible! But what we also love is that our kids are still learning in traditional methods - our kindergartner goes outside every possible day for real-world, hands-on science lessons (they even dissected owl pellets - I didn't do that until high school in Fairfax County Public Schools - one of the best in the country!), our 5th grader experimented with dry ice and bubbles to learn about gas/solids/liquids and on and on and on.... I could clearly keep going!

We highly recommend Catawba County Schools - in particular, Sherrills Ford Elementary, Mill Creek Middle, and Bandys High School! Do your research like we did and you will see the same. Feel free to call each school and ask for a tour - we did and we were so impressed! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
