Iredell Charter Academy of Arts & Science is a public charter elementary and middle school in Troutman, North Carolina, serving 627 students in grades K-8. This diverse school has shown strengths in academic performance, particularly in reading, science, and with gifted and talented students, but has also faced challenges in maintaining consistent achievement across different student subgroups.

Iredell Charter Academy stands out for its relatively high racial diversity, with 56.46% White, 17.7% African American, 16.43% Hispanic, and 8.77% two or more races. The school has outperformed many nearby traditional public schools, such as Third Creek Elementary and Shepherd Elementary, in academic proficiency rates. While Iredell Charter Academy has shown strengths in certain areas, such as 65.5% of 8th graders being proficient or better in EOG Reading, the school's overall performance has been inconsistent, fluctuating significantly in its statewide ranking over the years. Additionally, the school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 27.33% in 2021-2022 to 54.7% in 2022-2023, suggesting it may be serving a more economically disadvantaged population, which could impact academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Someone at that school HATES poor students! They have made SEVERAL UNFOUNDED DSS reports. Only reason fathomable is that they want those kids OUT of the school! They also ALLOW bullying and do LITTLE to stop it! This does not pertain to most of the teachers-they try "some" and do well with teaching...it is the ADMIN that have problems! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
