Madison Central High School

Summary:

Madison Central High School is a public high school serving grades 10-12 in Madison, Mississippi, part of the Madison County School District. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 61.96% White, 27.53% African American, 1.36% Hispanic, and 7.14% Asian.

Madison Central High School consistently ranks among the top high schools in Mississippi, maintaining a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's academic performance is excellent, with 72.8% of students proficient or better in MAAP/English II, compared to 61.8% for the Madison County School District and 46.2% for the state. However, the school has an extremely high percentage of students (over 99%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. Despite this challenge, Madison Central High School's spending per student, at $11,023, is higher than nearby Clinton High School ($9,108) and Ridgeland High School ($10,982).

The school's consistent academic excellence, despite the economic challenges faced by its student population, is a remarkable achievement. While Madison Central High School outperforms the state and district averages, it is interesting to note that Germantown High School, another school in the Madison County School District, also performs well academically, with test scores and rankings that are comparable to Madison Central High School. This diversity in academic performance within the district highlights the need for targeted support and resources to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Open Quote Good facility, it's a very nice building, however the problem lies with the staff. Most teachers can't do their job correctly, so students have to go home completeley clueless on what they were "taught", or teachers can be overly emotional and let their personal lives interfere with teaching. It's not only the teachers either principles and office staff are also in the wrong with how they address the schools policies, and etc.. Lastly the seinor bais is very noticable and immense, leaving the sophmores and juniors uncared for. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
