Crossroads Montessori

Summary:

Crossroads Montessori is a public magnet elementary school in Saint Paul, Minnesota, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 185 students. While the school has a diverse student population, its academic performance, as measured by state assessments, is significantly lower than the state and district averages.

Crossroads Montessori's student body is more racially diverse than nearby schools, with a makeup of 18.38% White, 29.73% African American, 12.43% Hispanic, 20% Asian, and 19.46% two or more races. However, the school's academic performance is concerning, with only 13.7% of students proficient or better in Math and 24.32% proficient or better in Reading, compared to state averages of 45.47% and 49.85%, respectively. The school's performance is particularly low for African American students and students of low socioeconomic status, ranking in the bottom 20% of Minnesota elementary schools.

While the nearby Paul & Sheila Wellstone Elementary and Como Park Elementary also serve high-poverty, diverse student populations, they generally outperform Crossroads Montessori on state assessments. This suggests that factors beyond student demographics may be contributing to Crossroads Montessori's low academic performance, which is further compounded by declining enrollment and high poverty rates among its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We enjoyed ourselves on "Grandparents and Special Friends Day" at Crossroads. The school has a welcoming and happy community feeling about it. I always feel good when I visit my grandniece. Teachers are empathetic, caring and respectful of the students and expect the same.
Very high marks for a beautifully designed environment of light, green space and cheery colors. All students were exuberant but very respectful. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
