Oak Ridge Leadershipenviron/Health

Summary:

Oak Ridge Leadershipenviron/Health is a public magnet elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Eagan, Minnesota, within the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district. The school has a diverse student population, with over 60% of students identifying as non-White.

Despite its diversity, Oak Ridge Leadershipenviron/Health has consistently underperformed academically, ranking in the bottom half of Minnesota elementary schools with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's proficiency rates on state assessments are significantly lower than the district and state averages across all grades and subjects. This academic underperformance is particularly pronounced for certain subgroups, such as African American, White, and special education students, who rank in the bottom quarter or half of Minnesota elementary schools in these categories. The school's high proportion of students from low-income families, with over 50% eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, may be a contributing factor to these academic struggles.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Woodland Elementary, Glacier Hills School - Arts/Science, and Thomas Lake Elementary, consistently outperform Oak Ridge Leadershipenviron/Health on academic measures, despite serving similar or more diverse student populations. This suggests that the school's challenges may not be solely attributable to its diverse student body, but rather a complex interplay of factors that the school's leadership and the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district will need to address to improve educational outcomes for all students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The Principal here is so involved and she knows the children by name. She is always available when I call and she knows my child without having to look at a file. The teachers are very approachable and communicate extremely well with parents. I get an email at least once a week from both my children's teachers to let me know what's going on in the class with curriculum or if there are concerns for my child. I love the staff and the school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
