Rahn Elementary

Summary:

Rahn Elementary is a public magnet elementary school located in Eagan, Minnesota, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 373. As part of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District, Rahn Elementary stands out for its diverse student body, strong performance in certain academic areas, and unique challenges.

One of Rahn Elementary's key differentiators is its racial diversity, with a higher percentage of African American (35.92%) and Hispanic (17.69%) students compared to the state average. Academically, the school's performance on MCA-III tests is generally higher than the district average but lower than the state average. However, Rahn Elementary shines in specific student subgroups, ranking 56th out of 282 Minnesota elementary schools for African American students and 46th out of 219 for Hispanic students, both with 4-star ratings. The school also excels in supporting its English Language Learner (ELL) students, ranking 24th out of 276 Minnesota elementary schools with a 5-star rating.

Despite these strengths, Rahn Elementary faces some challenges. The school's statewide ranking has declined over the years, and it struggles in certain areas, such as special education and low socioeconomic status students, where it ranks in the bottom half of Minnesota elementary schools. Additionally, the school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 42.72% in 2021-2022 to 65.68% in 2022-2023, indicating a growing population of students from low-income families. While Rahn Elementary outperforms the more distant Indian Mounds Elementary in Bloomington, it generally lags behind the nearby Gideon Pond Elementary and William Byrne Elementary, which are also part of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Administration is not very helpful when problems arise, teacher does an okay job. Principal does not return phone calls and kids have been not allowed to put on snow pants at ht e end of the school day. Needs better pickup and drop off area_ it is a dangerous chaotic place with cars kids and adults going every which way. I was almost hit by a bus! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
