Marine Area Community School

Summary:

Marine Area Community School is a public charter elementary school in Stillwater, Minnesota, serving 219 students in grades K-6. The school has a predominantly white student body, with over 90% of students identifying as white.

Academically, Marine Area Community School's performance on standardized tests is generally below the state averages across all grades and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates in Math (31.25%) and Reading (38.78%) were significantly lower than the state averages of 45.47% and 49.85%, respectively. The school's performance is particularly weak in 5th grade Math, where only 16.67% of students were proficient, compared to the state average of 44.14%. However, the school's 3rd grade Math and Reading proficiency rates are closer to the state averages, suggesting that the academic challenges may be more pronounced in the upper elementary grades. Compared to nearby schools like North Star Elementary, Rutherford Elementary, and Scandia Elementary, Marine Area Community School generally underperforms in academic achievement.

Additionally, Marine Area Community School has a significantly less diverse student population compared to the nearby schools, with over 90% of students identifying as white. This lack of diversity may be a concern, as research has shown that diverse learning environments can provide valuable educational and social benefits for students. The school also has relatively low rates of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, ranging from 5.31% to 15.98% in recent years, which may indicate that the school serves a more affluent population compared to the surrounding area. Overall, the analysis of Marine Area Community School's data reveals several areas of concern, and the school may need to implement targeted interventions and review its educational practices to address these challenges and better serve its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school won't teach anything that doesn't revolve around its tiny town. It has lied to its shareholders. All of the good teachers have left or were removed for having out of the box ideas. Go anywhere else but here. Classrooms have mold buildings are falling apart it's a tough place to be. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
