Level Up Academy

Summary:

Level Up Academy is a public charter elementary school in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, serving 113 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has a diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 73.45% White, 16.81% African American, 2.65% Hispanic, and 5.31% Asian.

Despite its diverse student body, Level Up Academy has consistently underperformed compared to the state and nearby schools in academic metrics. The school's proficiency rates in Math (21.54%), Reading (37.69%), and Science (6.82%) are significantly lower than the state averages, with particularly weak performance in 5th-grade Math at 0% proficiency. As a result, Level Up Academy has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Minnesota elementary schools, receiving a 1 or 2 out of 5 stars rating from SchoolDigger. The school's high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, at 50.44%, may be a contributing factor to its academic challenges.

In comparison, nearby schools like Willow Lane Elementary and Matoska International, which are part of the White Bear Lake School District, consistently outperform Level Up Academy in standardized test scores and have higher school rankings. The virtual counterpart of Level Up Academy, Level Up K-5 Virtual Academy, has a smaller enrollment and a lower student-teacher ratio, but its academic performance compared to the in-person academy is unclear.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is outstanding with really awesome staff members! This website has incorrect information. Test results reflect only those who chose to take the tests, which were optional. Our students are high achievers, and very motivated learners. We are focused mainly on STEAM, but also offer music, piano and band.
Come check out this awesome school, the best one I have taught at in my 20 years of teaching. Molly, the administrator is top-notch! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
